Up Close and Personal: Wildflowers don’t care where they grow…

Since starting a photography business, I find I don’t make nearly as much time to photograph off the job.  Since having a baby 8 months ago the only thing I have been photographing off the job is her!!!!  Yesterday Sarah and I were hanging out in the front yard, taking a few photos to mark her 8 month birthday, when I finally photographed some “weeds” growing beside our yard in the empty lot next door.  These flowers are more gorgeous than any bouquet my husband Dwayne could ever bring home from the store because they are here on their own free will, and they symbolize so much to me.  The Dolly Parton song “Wildflowers” has always been a favorite of mine, and speaks to me on a couple of different levels.  There are parts of this song that I feel Becky and I can apply to our goals in our business:

And the flowers I knew in the fields where I grew
Were content to be lost in the crowd
They were common and close, I had no room for growth
I wanted so much to branch out

As photographers we are challenged every day to be different, yet asked every day to be the same.  It’s a push and pull that we struggle with constantly.  A client that wants us to be someone other than ourselves, or a client that wants us to duplicate a shoot we did last month.  We strive to not be lost in the crowd, we are always reaching, trying to branch out, grow, and be different.

Here are my very own wild flowers, and my reminder today that while it may be comfortable to live inside of life’s flower beds we will grow taller and stronger if we “hitch a ride with the wind”!  Happy Wednesday!!!

Hope everyone takes time to appreciate the “weeds” today, and see the beauty in the things that grow outside life’s borders!

Coming Soon: Enchanted Evening

On Thursday night we were part of a team working for the lovely Kari from Dove Tree Art & Design.  Along with Paperback Films we spent the evening capturing visuals of Kari’s gorgeous works of heart.  It was a beautiful night with perfect light, gorgeous settings and beautiful girls in layers of tulle and lace!  What more could we ask for?!

You won’t want to miss the GORGEOUS trailer from the session by Paperback Films so head on over to their blog and leave them some love!
