Friends of Jack & Ruby: Coco Boudoir

It’s a Jack and Ruby first!  Our ‘Friends of Jack and Ruby’ posts are a way for us to share with our clients all of the fabulous people we work with in the wedding industry.  This is the first time we’ve featured another photographer.  Well, TWO photographers, actually.  Lizette and Carol are Coco Boudoir.  They are absolutely AMAZING at what they do.  These two ladies know how to take tasteful, classy, sophisticated boudoir photographs that ANY bride would be so proud to present to her groom on their wedding day.  As brides we do so much to get ready for the big day.  We eat a little less, exercise a little more, cut and color our hair, get our nails done…. all these things for one day.  Why not take advantage of all the hard work you’ve already gone to and book a session with Coco Boudoir.  You are looking your absolute best, why not make the most of it?  We can guarantee you Lizette and Carol will bring out the best in you and give you images that you will love forever!

When Carol and Lizette launched Coco Boudoir we read on their site why they wanted to get involved in shooting boudoir photos and it really stuck with us because it seems as women we are always stuck looking in the mirror wishing we could change something or other, rather than looking in the mirror and seeing the beauty and strength that we possess right now!

“We were inspired by the strength and beauty we saw and wanted a way to show all women how beautiful they are right now, not next year, a bit more toned or 10 lbs lighter, but right now.”

Boudoir is not just for brides, it’s for anyone who wants to have beautiful photos of themselves taken.  When the word boudoir comes up most people right away think of lingerie but by taking a look at their blog you’ll see that that’s not always the case!  Carol and Lizette are constantly scouring the web, Forever 21, and so many other places to find things for their wardrobe and they do a great job of mixing in pieces from your everyday wardrobe into the shoot if that’s the look you’re going for.

We asked Lizette and Carol our usual Jack and Ruby questions.  Here’s what they had to say;

Whats your favourite thing in your closet?

Lizette: My brown boots! they are so comfy and make feel put together.

Carol: My silver jeans! They are soooo comfortable and look great on everyone!

What’s your ideal getaway?

Lizette:  Some place hot, overseas and with breathtaking scenery.  You should see my Pinterest board, there are so many places I want to see someday.

Carol:  Beach, sand and sun, doesn’t matter where…

What’s your favourite indulgence?

Lizette: Chicken wings!!! I bet Carol will Say chips, chocolate and surfing the web :)

Carol: oh, Lizette, you think you know me so well… it’s actually, chocolate, web surfing (it’s an addiction really) THEN chips.

What’s your favourite movie?

Lizette:  There has only ever been 2 movies that have made me cry, I am Sam and my Sister’s Keeper, so for that reason I’ll pick those since I’m pretty difficult to make gushy and tearful. If I’m going for a good laugh then it’s black    sheep hands down.

Carol:  I love movies! So hard to pick one but I would have to say Titanic. I saw it a different time with each of my girlfriends and once with my fiance, for a grand total of 8 times. Not a typo people 8 times. Obsessed much? I think I should break out the vhs player and watch it again…

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Lizette: Truthfully I love busy weekends that are chalk full of friends and family :)

Carol: Snuggled on the couch watching movies with my girls and my husband.

What do you love about your job?

Lizette: I LOVE seeing the confidence of our clients while we’re photographing them. They are always smiling from ear to ear saying how beautiful we helped make them feel.  The emails we receive after they (and their significant others) see their gallery is pretty awesome too! Basically I love making women feel beautiful and confident.  How lucky am I?

Carol: The photoshoot itself is my favourite. I love going through the outfits the women bring and picking just the right thing. I get giddy when we get shooting and I see the images on the back of the camera. I love, love, love when I show an image to a woman on my camera and she says, “That’s me???”

So whether you’re a bride or just a regular gal who wants to celebrate YOU, contact Coco Boudoir.  We could show you so much more but you’ll have to head over and pay them a little visit on their blog to see the rest!  Check them out at http://www.cocoboudoir.ca/

Friends of Jack and Ruby: Paperback Films

So it’s time to break our previous pattern and feature some men for this segment of Friends of Jack and Ruby!

Paperback Films was born in early 2011 when Chris and Mark merged their two separate businesses after working the 2010 wedding season as a team.  They use the art of film to tell the story of your wedding, catching all the moments, the glances and laughter that you might not even notice happening on your wedding day.  Their films have the ability to make people laugh, cry and press play over and over again.

If you’ve ever been in the room when Paperback Films plays a Same Day Edit at a wedding reception it’s quite the event, and it usually ends with cheers from the audience and a few tears from the bride and other ladies in the crowd.  If you’ve ever had the privilege of watching these men work while they’re getting ready for a Same Day Edit it’s very clear that they LOVE what they do and they get a thrill out of challenging themselves to make the best highlight video possible for the couple in the course of about 8-10 hours.

We have had the privilege of working with Paperback Films on numerous occasions. As photographers, working with videographers can sometimes be *gasp* difficult. This is never the case with Paperback Films, Chris and Mark are a photographers dream. They are quick to get the footage they need, while being respectful of the photographers needs as well. They shoot the action as it happens rather than taking extra time to pose a couple or create a scene, which means that we as photographers can go on with our schedule with no interruptions. During a session with Paperback Films we can almost forget that they’re there, and sometimes do, because they are so great at doing what they do without being up close and personal. We always enjoy working with Chris and Mark because not only are they easy to work with but they also add some extra fun to the day with their light and easy approach to shooting. Their final product always demonstrates that same feel: relaxed, fun, natural, and real.

If you see the Paperback crew out filming this summer you might notice a third team member with them, that’s Cody, their secret weapon.  That cute little shot of the dog running by in Lauren and Adam’s highlight video…yup, that was Cody!

We asked Mark and Chris our “Jack and Ruby Questions” so you can get to know them a little bit better!

What’s your favourite thing in your closet?

Mark: Definitely go with the white belt.. inspired by Cody.  Now white belts have not always been on the radar for a fashion element I would want to wear personally.. however as a fashion statement on a wedding day I find it still has a memorable touch that we at Paperback have embraced.  And when my wife Melissa continued to encourage me that getting a white belt like Cody would be a good idea you know it’s just a matter of time before I give in.

Chris: I love winter because I love sweaters. Right now my favorite thing in my closet is my navy blue banana republic sweater along with my baby blue checkered dress shirt. I feel so comfortable in it and confident at the same time.  Once I got married, I stopped buying myself clothes because my awesome wife loves to buy things for me and dresses me up! I can’t complain!

What’s your ideal getaway?

M: So many ideal getaway’s to chose from… I would have to go with playing in the ocean… usually boogie boarding and the feeble attempts at surfing.  Love the beach and the sun.. and being there with Melissa.

C: Anything where there is a beach, hot weather and lots of sun. I am probably the worst (or best) person to vacation with because I am very low key. I truly love the idea of relaxing and taking in a holiday where there are no expectations about anything. To me getting away is truly “getting away” from everything.

What’s your favourite indulgence?

M: Have to go with glass half filled with ice and the rest rye and coke.

C: Apple pancakes with a touch of brown sugar and cinnamon. I can’t get enough!

What’s your favourite movie?

M: Shawshank Redemption – Love how the main character sets out on a journey, changing the lives of those around him and finding success in the persistence of years of hard work.

C: Awakenings – this movie gripped me when i first watched it. It is based on a true story of the victims of the encephalitis epidemic. Your heart goes out for the patients and what they must have gone through during that time. I have to note that Shawshank is probably just as close (Mark stole my #1 ;) )

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

M: Shooting a Same Day Edit of course!!  Or golfing is good too!

C: I have to confess, playing video games with my friends, family and brother in law j. I’ve always been a gamer!  I always enjoy a round of golf but only if we aren’t keeping score ;) . Also, I’ll never say no to a good hockey game (watching or playing).

What do you love about your job?

M: Shooting weddings is part of a deep fulfillment of participating in a creative process that I enjoy so much.  Part of the joy comes from being with people that are celebrating a truly happy occasion and I do feel that marriage is a very powerful statement and a journey that is worth celebrating.  I love meeting with our couples and getting to chat it up and we really have tons of fun shooting on the day of… so really I love that my job is fun.

C: There are two things that I love about my job!

One – is that it is a ton of fun.

Two – from start to finish, the entire process of creating a wedding film – filming, meeting the couple, editing, sound design, color correction and all of the technical things that put together a memory at the end of the day is such a rewarding process. We truly have the honor of filming/documenting one of the most important days in a person’s life. Its something we don’t take lightly and we understand the amount of trust that is given to us by our clients.
