Wedded Bliss: James and Kim

Today’s post is a little different for Jack and Ruby and SUPER special.  We normally only photograph couples, but one gorgeous day in September we made a special trip out to Grand Beach to photograph a very, very, special family.  My (Kara) sister Kim and her husband James were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary over the long weekend and I decided a surprise was definitely necessary.  With the help of my sister Kendra, the fabulous Becky, not too much complaining from my husband Dwayne, and some assistance from some other special friends, James and I managed to surprise Kim with a family photo shoot.

James and Kim are an example of a strong, healthy, Christian marriage.  Married 10 years and ready for another 50, they stand by each other always putting each other second, and God first.  They lead lives of example, and I couldn’t be more proud and more humbled by them.  Sure, they are human like the rest of us, making mistakes along the way, but they show me on a daily basis what it means to put God and family first.  2 years ago James and Kim made a huge move to Winnipeg where James now works as Director of Programming at Inner City Youth Alive.  It still saddens me to not have them living a few blocks away, but I am so excited for them and the difference they are making in Winnipeg and the north end community.

What a fun day we had playing in the sand dunes with James and Kim and the kids.  We were so blessed to have a warm day, perfect for the fun beach shoot we had planned.  Thanks so very much to Becky for coming along and helping me shoot, to Kendra for styling and helping to bring it all together, and to everyone else involved.  Thanks to Nancy Zacharias for hair and make up (more to come about her in the future!) and to Leane Funk of Helena Brecht for jewelry.

Here’s my lil’ sis and her beautiful family.  Love you all!

Up, up and away…

Krysten and Luke booked us for some 2 year anniversary photos, it had rained cats and dogs on their wedding day and they were not able to get any pictures outside so we knew we wanted to make this shoot EXTRA special for them.  In our first brainstorming emails with Krysten she sent us a link to a YouTube video of the Owl City song “Hot Air Balloon” and said she and Luke loved this song.  With their song as inspiration, our wheels started turning.  What could we do that was fun and cute like the song and how do we get a hot air balloon?  After a lot of brainstorming and a few diagrams we decided we would make the hot air balloon.  This was our big DIY project for the shoot and thankfully we had some talented help!  Kara’s wonderfully crafty sister who puts Martha Stewart to shame constructed the basket of the balloon for us and we assembled the whole thing once we got to the site.  Thanks Kendra!  We were thisclose to having a problem when the basked didn’t fit into Kara’s vehicle, but lucky for us Kara’s other lovely sister delivered it to the site for us in her van, kids in tow (who gave up their afternoon at the wading pool for us!)  Thanks Kim!

Once the hot air balloon “landed” we headed into some trees for a picnic and some snuggles and then took a walk in the countryside to enjoy the sunset. These two are beyond sweet and all the love between them made our job so easy! You can’t go wrong with a couple this cute in front of your camera!!!
