Up, up and away…

Krysten and Luke booked us for some 2 year anniversary photos, it had rained cats and dogs on their wedding day and they were not able to get any pictures outside so we knew we wanted to make this shoot EXTRA special for them.  In our first brainstorming emails with Krysten she sent us a link to a YouTube video of the Owl City song “Hot Air Balloon” and said she and Luke loved this song.  With their song as inspiration, our wheels started turning.  What could we do that was fun and cute like the song and how do we get a hot air balloon?  After a lot of brainstorming and a few diagrams we decided we would make the hot air balloon.  This was our big DIY project for the shoot and thankfully we had some talented help!  Kara’s wonderfully crafty sister who puts Martha Stewart to shame constructed the basket of the balloon for us and we assembled the whole thing once we got to the site.  Thanks Kendra!  We were thisclose to having a problem when the basked didn’t fit into Kara’s vehicle, but lucky for us Kara’s other lovely sister delivered it to the site for us in her van, kids in tow (who gave up their afternoon at the wading pool for us!)  Thanks Kim!

Once the hot air balloon “landed” we headed into some trees for a picnic and some snuggles and then took a walk in the countryside to enjoy the sunset. These two are beyond sweet and all the love between them made our job so easy! You can’t go wrong with a couple this cute in front of your camera!!!

C’est L’amour

We at Jack and Ruby are never ones to turn down the opportunity to celebrate love.  So when the calendar throws us an ENTIRE day devoted to Love, we lap it up with a spoon.  Sure, Valentines Day is totally a consumerist holiday, but beneath all the chocolates, flowers, jewelry (if you’re lucky!!!) and hallmark greeting cards is a staple we all live for… LOVE.  Whether it’s of the romantic sort, or a cute coffee date with your Grandma (like I had today!), love is something no person should be without.

Back in Summer Becky and I were brainstorming different ideas for some styled shoots we wanted to do some day.  The second Becky suggested a Valentines Day shoot it was ON!  Let the fun begin… from hot chocolate to pillow fights, the ideas fell into place.

Around the same time that this idea began we had been scheduled for a fun Love shoot with Desirae of Paper Airplanes and her husband Cole.  Unfortunately the shoot didn’t work out due to some scheduling issues… and we were all a bit disappointed.  So when Becky and I began planning our Valentines Day shoot we knew exactly who to ask.  We knew working with a creative mind like Des would only result in fabulous things and hopefully lead to more fun in the future.  Des and Cole did not disappoint.  They are the cutest little lovebirds out there!

Paperback Films was also on set for this production, filming a sort of ‘behind the scenes’ of Jack and Ruby (i.e me and Becky) at work.  As usual, their work is AMAZING!  You can view their final product HERE.  Thank you to them for a fabulous job, and for bringing some extra fun to the day.   I (Kara) would also like to thank Becky for being the spokes model/ narrator for the video.  I have a major phobia of speaking on camera.  Like, cheeks turn red, start to sweat, say “um” every other word kind of phobia.  If I could have had it my way I wouldn’t have made an appearance at all, but I guess I’m happy looking back that I braved my fears for a few short sentences.   Now you know I exist, however silly I may sound!  : )

So, here’s our little Valentines Day treat for all of you!  Check out the fun we had with Des and Cole below.  Don’t forget to check out our slideshow and of course, the video by Paperback films!!

Happy Valentines Day!!!!

P.S.  How much do you love our new home on the web?!  BIG thank-you hugs go out to Genevieve Sass of Lilac Creative who worked so hard creating our lovely new blog!  She went above and beyond for us patiently waiting as we went back and forth between ideas and even coding on the weekend so we could show off our Valentines Day photos on the new site -which we love oh so much!
